Seasonal H-2B workers in meat plants will be allowed extensions to their visas in a temporary ruling until May 2023. This mandate also includes those firms that transport and retail to consumers. Due to the recent pandemic related labor shortages the administration has declared meatpacking plants apart of the nation's critical infrastructure. Factories across the country have become a hotbed of infection and the government hopes to stave off closures and food shortages by extending work visas and allowing plants to rehire H-2B workers.
